Bullet Points

My delay in posting has not been due to a lack of effort...I have sat at the keyboard various times, but with little luck. With so many things to say I've been unable to pick a subject...so here are a few of my various thoughts...

* Ties. We aren't losing and that is great, but a tie is rarely satisfying. In fact the only two ties that have been satisfying this season are the come-back against RBNY and surviving the potential beat down by New England. The worst definitely came in week one when 3 points were robbed from us in the final seconds of a 94 minute game against Dallas. Kreis is proving to be the king of the tie with a four of them and only one loss. If somebody would have told us immediately after the Ellinger firing that we would only have one loss in a five game span the masses would have celebrated. The only problem is that unless there are a few wins in the mix it becomes difficult to really feel that we are achieving much. So where is the blame going? Well...

* Kreis. The 34 year old head player turned head coach has improved the defense while the offense has become non-existent in his short tenure. That is a drastic change that nobody would have predicted during his press-conference. One good thing he has done is increase intensity and work rate among the players. I rarely see players just standing around anymore during games (minus A. Harris) and it seems as if the desire has increased ten fold. The problem is that hasn't turned into wins and goals. Kreis has also struggled trying to get a team together while learning the league rules. This is explained well in a post found at AYL Soccer. One theory I've seen floating around is that these mistakes may not have happened if Real Salt Lake had a...

* GM. Okay FO, how are you supposed to build a team without a general manager? It is obvious Kreis has enough on his plate without having to be the team's GM too. You know...the guy that knows league rules and helps the team follow them. Kreis hasn't done so hot with the business aspect of his position, but really should he have to? He is an athlete-turned coach...his job should be on the pitch. We have many needs on and off the field...hire a guy to fix them. Kreis shouldn't be the guy out trying to get our...

* DP. So the latest rumor is that Claude Makalele from Chelsea is going to be our guy. He has expressed interest in playing soccer here in the states. It has also been rumored that his agent has contacted RSL. While I believe that our problems can be better solved with 3 good players rather than one over-the-hill superstar I do like Claude. He would provide much needed stability in the midfield and would probably score his share in MLS play. Which he would need to do with our lack of offensive production. We would actually be a great fit if we could get another forward along with him, but I fear that getting him means that we are done with player transactions. Well, if he doesn't work out he can join the long list of RSL...

* Martyrs. Want to become immortalized amongst RSL followers? Go to Salt Lake and get fired. Steve Pasterino, Peter Mellor, and Jeff Cunningham have become the most beloved RSL icons since they left. Those that criticized Jeff's lack of on field intensity and goal production now lament every day he is gone from us. Those that lumped Steve's mistakes with the rest of the Ellinger and FO fiasco now count him as a victim who was a best friend of the fans. And now the Mellor is gone people point to his legacy as proof that letting him go was unjust. Give me a break...

* JC was doing nothing for us this season and everybody was crying for change...that is change and in the end I believe we will be better for it. Yes I know, he won the golden boot last season...by the way, even with that pretty boot we didn't make the playoffs. And...

* Steve Pasterino, though he writes a great blog, was as much a part of the problem over the last two years as a single person could be. He was the GENERAL MANAGER! I like Steve too, but he wasn't doing his job the way we needed. He writes a nice blog, but maybe he spent too much time on that and not enough on improving the team. Though his martyrdom is only compounded by the fact thatRSL has failed to hire a competent replacement. And...

* Mellor might have been a good guy with years of experience, but look at his products over the last few years. DJ Countess, Scott Garlick, and Jay Nolly. Also, neither Seitz or Rimando Kreis' buddy...

* Jeff Cassar. Anybody else notice the way Rimando has been playing since Cassar came? I'm just saying. It is starting to look like the only blunder in hiring the guy (yes it is still early) was the...

* fine that came with it. Yes as pointed out earlier Kreis is building up the fines, but fairly they are fairly ridiculous outside of the Cassar fiasco. Ten-thousand dollars for wearing white uniforms at home because they didn't get league permission? That is a joke. Also this is the end of…
