The Salt Lake Elite

Hey guys, there is a new(ish) group out there and as we know the more organized our fans...the merrier. I think the R - S - L chant against DCU was shining proof of that (SLE didn't start that chant, but I think its a good example of what can happen when fans unite). It sounded great even online.

I asked the S.L.E. the same questions I've asked other supporter groups in the past and here are the results...

1. Describe the S.L.E....What do you guys offer to your team and fellow fans?

Well we have been a part of the Loyalist and have hung out with the RCB and love both groups, but we felt that there was such a contrast between the two that we wanted something more in the middle. SLE is a group no matter how the team does we will be there in full force, remaining positive.

2. How is the S.L.E. ran? How was it first organized?
SLE started this past summer, when a few of us were debating on which group to join, the Loyalist or the RCB. When we could not come to a conclusion we decided to start our own. The name is inspired from the movie Green Street Hooligans, and also the name of our indoor soccer team. Although our number are not great we are looking to get our name out there so next year in the new stadium you will see a good size crowd and know it is the SLE.

3. What is the number one achievement of the SLE? What is your best memory as a member of the SLE?
Our #1 objective is to get our name out there and what we represent. We want to show fans that we are truly Loyal and no matter the turn out will be behind the lads. So far the best memory is getting our blogspot up and readers responding, and our myspace page with adding new people on a daily basis, its good to know that people are interested and we will have a loyal group as we grow.

4. What makes the SLE unique from all other Supporter Groups?
We are not the rough neck group like the RCB, but also not the "Family oriented" Group the Loyalist are. We want to be that group that you would feel comfortable enough to bring your dad too or your best friend and won't be embarrassed either way.

5. What could you guys do to improve?
The SLE has a long way to go, and are in the works of getting a firm foundation down. We plan on looking for ways to expand, through our blogspot, myspace page, possibly watch parties soon and eventually full on events at the games.

6. What do the SLE have planned for the 2008 season?
We are planning on a road trip to the Home Depot center to watch the lads take on the Galaxy, we are planning on a few watch parties through out the year and when ReAL makes the playoffs we are planning on attending as many of those games as possible.

7. Anything else you want people to know? How can people join?
Although we are small but with out grassroots efforts and establishing a good solid foundation we will be a bigger force come next season. People can join either on our myspace page www.myspace.com/saltlakeelite , our facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9037153315 or by e-mailing us at saltlakeelite@gmail.com. Check out our blogspot in the mean time and get excited because the SLE will one of the biggest support groups in the MLS.
